Linus Bike, Advocates of Commuter Bikes, Supports Move to Install More Bike Lanes

Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) April 06, 2013

On April 6, Linus Bike offers a response to an increase in the number of bike lanes in Grand Rapids.

The Rapidian reports an effort undertaken by the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition (GGRBC), to persuade city officials to promote commuting by means other than individual vehicle. The GGRBC has set a goal of aiming to install one hundred miles of bike lanes for commuter bikes to travel on by 2014s end.

Grand Rapids was reported to have no bike lanes in 2009 and since that time, the GGRBC made it a priority to improve the environment of the city so as to be more biker friendly. The article makes a note that the GGRBC set their goal for Grand Rapids as high as the bicycle commuter rate of Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor claims to have a bicycle commuter rate six times greater than the nations average.

The Rapidian measures the success of the GGRBC by citing the amount of bike lanes that have been installed since their efforts began. To date, Grand Rapids is stated to be equipped with 34 miles of bike lanes.

GGRBCs Interim Director, Tom Tilma, identified a cultural shift among millennials and college students- many are choosing a lifestyle independent of a car." Tilma believes that this shift will encourage the move toward making the city more accommodating for cyclists.

China Reevers, a Linus Bike representative, speaks in favor of the GGRBCs push to make Grand Rapids a biker friendly place. The Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition, as well as the city of Grand Rapids, should be applauded for the success they have had in installing the citys bike lanes. This progressive move is an encouragement for decongesting traffic, promoting a healthier lifestyle, and painting a more positive picture for the urban landscape.

Linus Bike is a California-based bicycle manufacturer that specializes in creating vintage style city bikes and commuter bikes. Not simply a bicycle company, Linus Bike sells a complete line of accessories for the environmentally conscious and for those who have a fondness for European style bicycles and the great tradition of European cycling.
