<p>Aaron Escamilla has committed to participating in the June of 2013 bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, California. The fundraiser aims to help make a difference in the lives of people suffering from HIV and AIDS. The ride will take place over seven days from June 2nd to the 8th of 2013. In total, Mr. Escamilla will have cycled 545 miles by the time he completes the entire course. </p>
<p>Mr. Escamilla has been aware of this particular fundraising event for a quite some time and in the past wasnt able to participate. This will be his very first ride and is looking forward to the physical challenges that it will present. While he can physically manage this bike ride, he will need help with the fundraising aspect and he encourages those that share his enthusiasm to consider donating to the cause. <p>The AIDS/LifeCycle is a 545 mile, 7-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles that is raising money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. This ride takes place every year through beautiful California and ultimately delivers a forever life-changing experience for thousands of men and women from all different backgrounds and fitness levels, all who share in the common desire to help in the fight against the HIV/AIDS. </p>
<p>Human immunodeficiency virus infection/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a disease of the human immune system; it is caused by infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). When a person is initially infected, they may experience a brief period of flu-like symptoms; however, as the disease advances, it progressively interferes with the immune system, thereby increasing the persons susceptibility to infection and making them vulnerable to a variety of life-threatening infections and cancers. Common bacteria, yeast, parasites and viruses that dont normally cause serious disease in people with a healthy immune system can be fatal in people with AIDS. </p>
<p>To date, there is no cure or vaccine for HIV; however, antiretroviral treatment can slowdown the progression of the disease significantly and improve the quality and length of those who test positive for the disease. </p>
<p>According to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, the first causes that would later become known as AIDS were reported in the United States in June of 1981; since that time there have been more than 1.8 million people in the U.S. that have been infected by HIV, including more than 650,000 people that have died. Today, more than 1.1 million people are living with HIV, and as of 2011, the top three states with the highest rate of HIV diagnosis were California, Florida and Texas in that order. Fortunately, treatment advances have substantially reduced the AIDS-related morbidity and mortality rates and have extended the lives of many living with HIV; still many of those who suffer with the disease are not receiving the medical care or treatment they need. Despite the advances in modern medicine aimed at combating HIV, hundreds of thousands have already died from the disease. </p>
<p>On March 30, 2012, the White House Office of the Press Secretary released a presidential memorandum on the subject of: Establishing a Working Group on the Intersection of HIV/AIDS, Violence against Women and Girls, and Gender-related Health Disparities. In the presidential memorandum, it discussed how throughout the U.S., the spread of HIV/AIDS has had a devastating impact on many communities. It reported that there were approximately 1.2 million people living with HIV/AIDS, including more than 290,000 women. Whats more, women and girls accounted for 24% of all diagnoses of HIV infection among United States adults and adolescents. The spread of HIV/AIDS is a primary concern of the Obama Administration; it is a public health threat that cannot be ignored. </p>
