Lagos, Nigeria (PRWEB) March 31, 2013 </p><p> The CEO of Nigerias most popular jobs website, http://www.jobberman.com, has called on the government to ensure all Nigerians have access to government job opportunities in the wake of the recent unemployment protests against the government in Bayelsa. </p>
<p>The protests involved violent clashes with police and jobless graduates protesting against unemployment. </p>
<p>Jobberman CEO, Ayodeji Adewunmi commented that this type of youth discontent shows the height of desperation and frustration at the unemployment situation in the country.</p>
<p>This riot is a reflection of the growing discontent in the Niger Delta region. Our greatest natural resource as a country is not oil it is the people and their potential is both untapped and vast. Education and skill acquisition programmes will unlock the true potential of the country, and the Niger Delta in particular, but also direct access to opportunities nationally, supported by the country's largest employers.</p>
<p>Ayodeji Adewunmi said that while the federal government has rightly been focusing on providing the right socio-economic climate for businesses and industries to thrive, there was more that could be done at a practical grassroots level to address the unemployment issue. </p>
<p>He said that beyond encouraging a larger share of the national budget going to education, encouraging access to credit, and providing a conducive business environment that fosters value generation and job creation, the government needed to urgently address red tape issues, and needed to embrace the opportunities afforded by new technology and innovation.</p>
<p>He further said that the government itself, as a major employer, could easily ensure as a matter of good public policy, that all government and parastatal job vacancies were mandatorily placed online so that all Nigerians could access them. He said that advertising on http://www.jobberman.com and other online media was free, and that Jobberman was prepared to allocate dedicated resources to assist government bodies to place their opportunities online if needs be.</p>
<p>He said that Jobberman was known for trying to ensure as many opportunities were on the site as possible for Nigerians to access, and called on the government to support this goal. </p>
<p>He said ' there are not many good public policy initiatives that cost the tax payer nothing, have almost no barriers to implementation and directly address an urgent and pressing social problem."</p>
<p>Adewumni further said that in terms of reach, marginalised parts of the country can now easily access opportunities online, and that the government should be taking the opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering their promise for equitable access to opportunity throughout the country, and setting a strong example. </p>
<p>He said the online medium offers a practical, homegrown and innovative solution to the lack of localised opportunity in marginalised communities. </p>
<p>He noted that in other countries, such as Australia and the U.S.A, the government was obliged by their citizens to place all their job vacancies online for citizens to access, and other African countries such as Rwanda and Kenya were also beginning to consider addressing this social issue in the same way. </p>
<p>Ayodeji Adewunmi is the CEO and co-founder of Jobberman, the biggest jobs board in Nigeria with over 6,000 companies offering opportunities to Nigerians.</p>
